November’s the time to plant bare-rooted trees, shrubs, hedging and roses, fruit trees and bushes. Soak the roots in a bucket of water for an hour first and protect against frost and wind if exposed. More monthly advice: http://goo.gl/MvQsOJ

Wonder what food is good to leave for hedgehogs? Sultanas, sunflower hearts, chicken or turkey flavoured cat or dog food in jelly (not fish or beef based, either wet or dry), chopped nuts, cooked potatoes and dried mealworms. It is also possible to get specialist hedgehog food. Don't forget to leave water too. Read more: http://goo.gl/EO5Bf6 As part of #WildAboutGardens week. We love hearing about your experiences of caring for hedgehogs so do comment below.

It's #WildAboutGardens week this week. So everyday we'll give you a tip on how to look after any wildlife that may be lurking in your garden. Plus how to attract more. Hedgehog numbers are sadly decreasing. Part of the reason for this is they become isolated due to an increase in wooden fencing, which stop them coming and going freely. You can help my putting a small concealed 'Hedgehog Highway' hole or door in your fence panel or, where possible, use hedges for privacy rather than fences. More advice here: http://goo.gl/A5baOZ

Plant of the Week The Streptocarpus are popular and moderately easy-to-grow houseplants in a wide range of attractive colours which will produce flowers over several months; few houseplants give as good and long lasting show. The Polka Dot Purple has a distinct, beautiful and delicate coloration, quite different to all other Streptocarpus varieties. Come and check this 2015 Chelsea Flower Show winner out at your local Wyevale Garden Centre!

Plant of the Week Rubus idaeus 'Autumn Bliss' (Raspberry) is the classic autumn-fruiting variety, well known for its outstanding performance and the quality of its fruit. Firm, bright red berries with a great flavour are borne in late summer and right through autumn. Good for freezing and delicious fresh. All raspberries are self-fertile. Container grown plants can be planted throughout the year. Bare-root plants are available from November to March. Plant 45cm apart in well-drained, preferably slightly acid soil. Ripens best in full sun, but light shade is acceptable. Shelter from strong winds is essential. No support is needed for the sturdy canes. Pruning of autumn fruiting raspberries is very simple: cut down all canes to ground level in February. British nursery grown, this plant has an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
